Ride Notes
This season my RRtY series is running in parallel with a Super Randonneur attempt - Brevet Cymru was my SR 400km, so I needed a 200km for May to keep the series going. Guy agreed to come with me on the familiar route to Ginny’s and Wilton.
The morning session was pretty cold - I met Guy at Axbridge and we climbed Cheddar Gorge and rode across the Mendips into a pretty stiff easterly. By the time we reached the climb up to Horningsham the sun was out and it was warning up nicely. Slower than usual service at Ginny’s was probably due to the large group of motorcyclists having their brekkie in the courtyard - it was actually nice to have a sit and relax rather than rushing and the food was worth the wait.
After Ginny’s it warmed up considerably and by the time we had climbed Donhead Hollow, descended Zig Zag hill and arrived it Shaftesbury it was properly hot in the sun. A quick iced latte in Costa and a bottle refill later we headed off with a lovely tailwind which helped considerably on the section to Gillingham and then Bruton. After the obligatory garage stop the final flat run into Glastonbury via Ditcheat was relatively easy.
Guy and I parted company just before Mark where he headed off for the slog into the wind to Rooksbridge and I rolled along the last 5km or so to the finish.
